EKFB waterproofing works at Calvert Railway Bridge
06/07/2026
EKFB is planning to undertake the waterproofing application at School Hill bridge (Calvert Railway Bridge) this week. Attached is an image of what this looks like.
Unfortunately, the deck surface temperature is expected to exceed the maximum application requirement of 30°C, which is likely to be the case over the next two weeks based on the current forecast. This would prevent the waterproofing works from proceeding during daytime hours. Given the criticality of this activity in achieving the planned road opening on 16th August, we are proposing; (see very rough map below to help explain the following)
- Night-time working from tomorrow, Tuesday 7th July until Thursday 9th July between the hours of 8pm and 6am to allow the works to be completed on programme and reduce the risk to the planned road opening date. We hope to complete works asap so may not need the three nights; they are booked to include contingency.
- 4/5 guys on site with one spray machine, attached to the van which holds the waterproofing paint.
- The orange box on the below map shows where the van will be largely positioned.
- Van engine will be switched off when parked and when spraying and will be parked on the east side of the bridge, furthest away from Werner Terrace/Brackley lane as possible.
- The spray hose is 50m and the bridge deck 56m so the van will only have to encroach approx. 6m onto the bridge deck.
- Lighting will face towards School hill compound away from residential properties, shown in yellow on the map.
- Temporary noise barriers will be installed along both perimeters of the bridge deck to reduce noise where possible, shown in blue on the below.
